Flamenco Completo Workshop Description

Dance, Guitar, and Singing - all in one workshop!

Ulrika Frank (flamenco dancer) and Marija Temo (flamenco guitarist and singer), each known for their informative teaching styles, have collaborated to offer a complete workshop experience that unites dancers, guitarists, and singers in the same class. Flamenco Completo is unique in that the workshop focuses on the structure of letras (verses of flamenco singing), how the structure varies, and is improvised in different ways.

Dancers are given choreography to letras, guitarists learn to accompany both the letras and the dance simultaneously, and singers are taught letras with melodic and structural changes. While accompanying one another, dancers and guitarists will realize and learn the adjustments needed in order to interpret the variations that occur in the singing.

Flamenco Completo will enhance your awareness to listen, react, and respond.

Comments about the teachers

"They are a phenomenal team and they produce something that both the seasoned flamenco and the beginner would glean a lot from; and could possibly pull in more students who were looking for an introduction to the art form. I am amazed at how they are able to reach the full spectrum of students. They make you think and they also explain things well."

"I also want to take this time to say that your seminar is an awesome teaching tool and I think you all could really go far with it. You two provide a powerful combination that really helps people understand flamenco. You help codify the dance which is helpful to us Norte Americanos!!!"

"Marija and Ulrika (The Dream Team)"

"I love the team teaching with different but campatible view points. Teachers both communicate with consistent clarity."

"The dynamic you created in the class made it feel ok to ask questions or answer wrong."

"Both Ulrika and Marija are amazing individually and as a team."

"You are both full of endless good ideas."

"I think you both are priceless."

"I loved this workshop and it absolutely lived up to and surpassed my expectations. I already knew what a wonder Ulrika is but WOW, Marija blew me away. What planet is she from?! Together you two are an invaluable resource."

Comments about the workshop

"This workshop really changed my flamenco life."

"Very much liked the interchange between perspectives of the dancer/singer/guitarist.
For the first time I was able to catch variations within the letra and understand who's in charge-essentially how to communicate and who's communicating"

"I was able to understand how the give and take is achieved."

"The biggest discovery was the difference between the feel in your body during marking (relaxed, laid back) vs. the more forward -leaning position of a llamada or during footwork. Almost everything Marija taught about cante structure was new and exciting."

"I took away from this workshop, the need to listen, listen, listen, know your basic structures, and then be prepared to let them go. Heart and soul of flamenco is freedom and improvisation within the structure."

"I was able to feel more confident improvising."

"The workshop exceeded my expectations."

"I was able to understand and hear the singer's cante progression, the structure of the letra, the pitch changes, and resolving."

"I didn't realize what a good foundation I would get."

"I was able to understand how to listen to the accent patterns from the guitarist as they vary."

"It was extremely helpful to further understand the structure and interplay of flamenco structure, music, and dance."

"I really like the breakdown of the dancing with Marija playing and singing at the same time in various ways."

"The workshop was incredible."

"I really liked the imagery used."

"I love the cerebral part with charts combined with dance and hands on."

"I took away hope and inspiration from this workshop."

"The workshop was a very positive and supportive environment."

"Would love to see more of the same for future workshops and more frequent visits."
